What is Life Coaching?

Last year I took a Life Coaching course and I am very excited to be able offer Life Coaching sessions to clients.

Life Coaching is something you may have heard about but don’t know what it actually is. Sports coaches for example, help athletes improve their performance. In much the same way, a Life Coach can help you to achieve goals and improve aspects of your life.

A Life Coach can look at difficult issues with you and help you get past things that might be blocking your progress. You can then move on and achieve greater fulfilment and happiness. Life Coaching can work on every aspect of your life, as well as looking at and improving personal relationships. Life Coaching can help with any issues you may have. You can get clarity with goals and identify and overcome obstacles that may be getting in the way and preventing you from making progress.

If you come to me for Life Coaching you will learn skills and techniques to help you deal with issues that may come up, now or in the future. In Life Coaching we help you identify and make the most of your strengths, providing support along the way as you make changes to your life. Some of the tools used can help support you long after you may have stopped coming to regular coaching sessions.

What actually happens in a Life Coaching session with me

In a life Coaching Session, you start with telling me why you have come to see me and what has lead you to this point. The main method of coaching I use is person centred. This means that you talk to me and explore the issues you are dealing with. The idea behind this is that you are given plenty of space to look at ideas and ways of moving forward. During this time you can speak and explore ideas really thoroughly.

In everyday life we are all busy and keen to have our say, we interrupt each other and very often never get the chance to think through an issue to a conclusion.

Very often we already subconsciously know the answers we are looking for. These answers just need time and space to be teased out into the open. I am always amazed by wonderful ‘aha’ moments you can have during this process. These very often leading you to see the issue from a different point of view.

My job during a session is mainly to listen to you until you have run out of thinking. When this happens I ask a question to prompt you to think further.

What is the Sedona Method?

As well as using various coaching tools, I use something called the Sedona Method, named after the town of Sedona in Arizona USA, where it originated.

The Sedona Method is a simple but powerful technique that helps you uncover your natural ability to let go of painful or unwanted feelings. You can use this at any time to let go of feelings or thoughts, leading to more joy and happiness. I found out about the Sedona Method 12 years ago and have been using it regularly ever since.

When I am coaching people I tend to use the Sedona Method if someone is feeling extremely stressed or if they are feeling stuck or having repetitive thoughts. Sometimes people are experiencing stress when they first come to me, so we start by looking at the stress, this clears a path for more thinking and planning, moving forward in life.

Issues we have perceived as problems that feel unpleasant tend to get tucked away in our subconscious, where we can’t see them. We can become completely unaware of them and this adds to cluttered and muddled thoughts. When these thoughts come out into the open, we realise that they didn’t have power over us after all and we can then just let them go.

The Sedona Method is a wonderful and simple way of welcoming these feelings – yes, that does sound difficult! By allowing these thoughts and feelings to rise to the surface they loose their power and we can just let go of them. This can lead to a sense of calm and peace.

If you are interested in the Sedona Method, there is a film here. This is a link to the website and this is a link to a funny explanation of how it works.

If you feel you could benefit from Life Coaching, please do contact me. I offer a 45 minute free exploratory phone call where we can discuss what you want to look at and I can outline how I can help you to move forward to where you want to be in life.

I am pleased to let you know that I have finally finished my new website, the link to it is here.
